2001: Santa Fe Depot
Shawnee, Oklahoma
Joseph Schuettner of Aurora, Illinois using the Romanesque Revival style of the late 1800’s, designed the Santa Fe Passenger Station. The building was completed in 1904, built during the eclectic period which was known for its charming “extras.” Many of the early settlers said they felt a sense of security when they first saw the tower, standing like a guardian over the budding town. The building was placed on the National register of Historic Places on June 5, 1974, and the Historical Society of Pottawatomie County opened it as a museum on May 29, 1982.
