Harding Junior High School is an example of Collegiate Gothic style Masonry Building. The building was originally constructed in 1924 with a floor area of 125,321s.f. with several additions throughout 1924-1957 bringing the square footage up to 175,539s.f. Designed by the firm Layton, Smith and Forsyth, Solomon Layton who has been widely described as the major designer of territorial and early statehood days, and as one of the most important and influential architects in all of Oklahoma’s history. Harding Junior High is entered in the National Register of Historic Places. The design and construction of Harding Junior High is a physical manifestation of one of the most vibrant periods of Oklahoma City’s development.
