1997: Ferguson Chapel
Watonga, Oklahoma
In December of 1901 eleven members met to organize a Presbyterian Church. This one story late gothic revival includes an exposed belfry, gothic arched entry and windows. The cost to build the church was $1,387.99. The church was dedicated Sunday, June 14, 1903. Restored in 1992 as a “community project” and completed by volunteer citizens of Watonga that raised over $25,000.00 from individuals from all areas of the United States. The Church is now listed on the National Register, and the Oklahoma Landmarks Inventory reads: “A fine example of carpenter gothic (late gothic revival) church constructed in pre-statehood Oklahoma.”
